The Tata Institute of Social Sciences, also known as TISS, is a multidisciplinary social science research and higher learning institution in Mumbai, India. It was established in 1936 and it is oldest institute in Asia functioning as research and education as well as social intervention in social sciences. TISS is an NAAC Grade ‘A+’ institution and ranked 39th in NIRF Ranking 2023 among universities in India which validates the quality education imparted here. It is accredited by the University Grants Commission and provides a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, MPhil and PhD in fields of social work, public policy, health, education, social science research.
TISS runs full-time as well as distance learning courses in the fields of undergraduate and postgraduate levels including social work, counselling psychology, public health, economics, education, women centric studies, disaster management etc besides offering diploma and certificate courses.

1. Masters in Social Work: Essential Academic Qualifications: Master’s degree in any stream with minimum 50% marks for social science/ humanities background.
2. Masters in Public Health: Any graduate from any field with at least 50% marks in the degree is eligible for the program.
3. Masters in Human Resource Management: Possess a degree of any field at the postgraduate level with not less than 50% marks. Job training in human resource management preferred.
4. Masters in Rural Management: The candidates should be having a Bachelor degree with minimum 50% marks. Preferable if you have had work experience within a rural setting or with rural populace.
5. Masters in Hospital Administration: Only those candidates who have passed the bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks only need to apply.
6. Masters in Law: Graduate degree in law, it is mandatory to have minimum 50% marks in their bachelor’s degree from any university. Previous work experience is but not mandatory.
