The University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot is a leading university that specializes in the educational, research and outreach domains related to horticulture and related disciplines. It was set up in 2008 with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC and ‘12 (B)’ status by UGC. According to the NIRF ranking system in 2023, the university has been position in 51 among agricultural universities in the country. 

The university is currently imparting several undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the different fields of study including Horticulture Science, Forestry, Food Science, Agricultural Marketing, Organic Farming, Sericulture, Floriculture and Landscape Architecture. While the bachelor’s programs take 4-years to complete, the master’s programs are for 2 academic years. For the next academic year of 2024, the university will be holding written tests in May or June of 2023. The appli-cation process is normally in March, but may vary depending on a particular year’s schedule. Candidates offered seats then proceed to counseling for the allocation of seats across the university’s 8 colleges and 31 departments.  

That is why the university proudly demonstrates an excellent record of placements for the students. Companies such as Godrej Agrovet, Mahindra Agri, Nuziveedu Seeds, Parle Agro, Big Basket, Jain Irrigation, etc. recruit from the campus every year. During campus placements for the year 2022, there were more than 92 organizations, and 234 students got selected. The highest salary offered to the students was 16.8 lakh per annum and the average salary offered to the students was 6.2 lakh per annum. Some of the leading organizations that recruit these specialists are EXIM bank, Yes Bank Ltd., Karnataka Bank Ltd., Madhur Trading, NABARD and Food Testing Laboratories. Majority of the students secured employment in agriculture, horticulture, banks, research, and food technology positions.

University of Horticultural Sciences Eligibility Criteria 2024 (by Departments)

1. The candidates should have completed 10+2 or its equivalent from any recognized Board with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) in the respective stream i.e. Science/Agriculture stream.

2. For BSc programs, the candidate would have to have Mathematics/ Biology/ Physics/Chemistry in 10+2. For BTech, students have to study physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. 

3. Age limit: Minimum 17 years and there is no upper age limit to practice as a nurse. As per Govt. norms for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category relaxation in the age limit will be allowed.

4. Should fulfill the criteria specifically stated in the admission brochure like subjects taken, marks scored.

5. Obtaining the university entry examination and attaining the minimum pass scores depending on the program of study and the category of the students. 

6. Meeting all other requirements of documents, application fees, procedures as mentioned on the admission notification by the respective university.

University of Horticultural Sciences Courses Details 2024

The University of Horticultural Sciences is situated in Bagalkot, Karnataka and it provides with horticulture, forestry, food technology and agricultures programs. As an institution of over 100 full time professors, the university guarantees to offer training and engage in research within these areas. 

At undergraduate level, the university provides the programs like Bachelors in Horticulture, Bachelors in Forestry, Bachelors in Food Technology, and Bachelors in Agriculture as 4 years programs. The University of Horticultural Sciences is another institution that has shown great performance in the placement aspect for its students. In 2022, the highest number of students were placed with more than 85% of the eligible students securing a job, heading companies like UPL, Bayer, DuPont, and Nuziveedu Seeds.
