The Vidyasagar University is a statutory university which was established in 1981 at Midnapore, West Bengal under the West Bengal of Established in 1981. It is a recognized university under the University Grants Commission and get ‘A’ grade accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC in the year 2016. In NIRF ranking in the year 2023, Vidyasagar university stood on 76th position in the ranking of universities in India.
The university provides programs for courses at the bachelors, masters, and Doctorate levels under the 39 departments of the university in science, arts, commerce, management. Few of the courses offered include BA, BSc, BCom, MA, MSc, MCom, MBA, MCA, and PhD. It conducts admissions in the month of May every year and students have the option to fill up the application form either online or offline. They are usually conducted between October and December, though there is a variation depending on the country and region. Vidyasagar university has a well developed placement cell for final year students and they arrange campus interviews for different companies. Several large-scale IT companies such as Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Cognizant and Accenture have themselves visited the campus for placements and recruited Vidyasagar students in the past. The average salary offered is between 3-5 lakhs per annum for recruiting companies while the highestsalary has been till 15 lakhs per annum. Thus, according to the data, more than 60% of the eligible students are normally placed every year. Similarly, to further enhance their employability, the placement cell offers soft skill development, aptitude test, group discussion, and interview techniques. It is divided into subcategories like IT and software, where some of the recent recruiters are Flipkart, Byju’s, Extramarks, Federal Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Tech Mahindra and HCL. The university has also put in place a startup incubation center to encourage students to become successful entrepreneurs.
