The West Bengal State University Barasat is a State Public University and is situated in Kolkata West Bengal. It was Established in the year 2008 and has received accreditation from the University Grant Commission (UGC). The university had been accredited grade ‘B’ in the year 2016 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). According to NIRF rankings 2023, it stands between 101-150 rankings of universities in India.
The university has undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate levels of learning and is linked with colleges. Among the various courses offered at the graduation level some of the most sought after ones are as follows: Bachelor of Arts [BA], Bachelor of Science [BSc], Bachelor of Commerce [BCom], Bachelor of Computer Applications [BCA]. At the postgraduate level the university provides the courses like MA, MSc, MCom, MCA. Selection into the programmes will be made based on their performance in the qualifying examination. Normally the application is done every year in the month of May while the exams are done in the month of June. The specific candidates later on attend the counseling session for purposes of confirmation of enrollment. It is likely that the subsequent academic session for 2024 is to start in July, 2023.

The placement cell of the institution at West Bengal State University Barasat provides on-campus interview for final year students. The recommended organizations that recruit direct from the campus include Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Infosys, and Cognizant.
