West Bengal University of Health Sciences or WBUHS is a state university from Kolkata, West Bengal and it exclusively deals with the health sector and medical studies. Located in Kolkata, it was set up in 2002 following the passage of the West Bengal University of Health Sciences Act, and it has UGC recognition. WBUHS was graded ‘A’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC in the year 2016 and has secured the 95th position in the NIRF Medical University rankings in the year 2023.
The university focuses on medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy and allied healthcare disciplines that include undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral level. Some of the general courses that are offered are MBBS, BDS, B.Sc Nursing, Bachelor of physiotherapy (BPT), B.Pharmacy, MD, MS, MDS, Master of science in nursing, DM, M.Ch. Semester exams for the university are held in June and December for each year of a course. The various courses offered have admission requirements in form of national and/ or state entrance examinations. Most of the applications are usually launched in May- June. NEET exam is compulsory for MBBS and BDS, for BPT and BSc Nursing entrance exam of WBUHS is obligatory.
WBUHS has more than 150 affiliated colleges/institutes in the state and is responsible for imparting efficient medical education/training to its learners. The clinical facilities of the major hospitals such as Calcutta National Medical College, NRS Medical College are affiliated for clinical exposure and training as well as internship. Many big organizations come to the B schools campus for recruitment process for providing jobs to the graduating and post graduating students. Placement: Over 500 students at this institute get placed through campus and the average salary package offered ranges from INR 4- 8 Lacs per annum. Some of the key recruiters for the students who complete their course from different specializations are Apollo Hospitals, Fortis Healthcare, Medanta Hospital, Wockhardt Hospitals and so on. Medical programs have the placement rate varying between 60% and 75% in WBUHS.

The maximum salary provided here is up to INR 18 lakhs per annum and this salary is offered according to some specializations. It is seen that, on an average with the investments done in terms of money and efforts, most of the students are able to get placed in companies offering pay packages between INR 4 lakhs to INR 8 lakhs per annum.
