The Institute of Technical Education and Research or ITER Bhubaneswar is one of the premier institutions of technical education in Orissa which offers several technical and professional courses in various disciplines. The Computer Science and Engineering department has B.Tech CSE course with the prerequisites being pass in 12th in PCM or any other engineering entrance exams such as JEE Main, OJEE, etc The Electrical Engineering department has B.Tech Electrical Engineering course and for the admission the candidate should have passed 12th in PCM or entrance examination scores. Some other popular courses are Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering and others for which similar admission criteria are that the candidate must have passed 12th PCM or have scored well in the engineering entrance tests. The Bhubaneswar based ITER conducts degree courses in B.Tech, M.Tech, and MCA. As for the entrance examination, it accepts only JEE Main, OJEE and AIEEE. There is a criterion for selection which is merit and merit is obtained from the performance of candidates in the qualifying examination. 1. JEE Main ranks – The merit for admission is determined by the ranks that students secure in JEE Main test. Admission to B.Tech programs at ITER requires candidates to attain a specific cutoff rank to qualify for admission.
2. Percentage in Class 12th – The candidate must have passed Class 12th examination with 60% Marks & above (50% Marks for SC/ST Category) . This is one of the requirements that have to be met before one is considered for admission into university.
3. JEE Main – Not only percentile and overall rank but also candidates’ performance section wise in JEE Main is also considered for admissions. Improved performance in the testable areas such as Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry is an advantage.
4. Branch preference - Branches such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, and the like are more in demand and hence, lower branch-wise eligibility cutoff in terms of ranks.

- ITER offers M.Sc programs through an entrance test conducted by the institute and for all India admission. This includes exams such as ITEREE which is used to refer to an ITER entrance exam for M.Sc among others.
- Applicants should have passed B.Sc in relevant disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematic etc with acceptable levels of pass or above.
- Apart from the scores obtained in the entrance exam, the eligibility criteria also takes into account the marks secured by the candidate in respect of B.Sc examinations for the purpose of preparation of merit list. While preparing the final ranks for the students, even marks obtained in the entrance examination, as well as the marks obtained in B.Sc are taken into consideration.
- As per the government norms regarding the reservations the merit lists are prepared and for the counselling for the ITER M.Sc program. There are a few seats reserved for categories such as SC, ST, OBC, PwD etc.

- It is important to note that all applicants must pass an entrance exam and present a valid GATE score to be considered for admission to the M.Tech program. There is a condition that to be considered for a seat in an IIT for M.Tech., the candidate has to clear GATE in the respective discipline.
- The admission criterion is based on the weightage of 60:40, where 60% weightage is allotted to GATE score and remaining 40% weightage to interview / counseling session.
- GATE score is also categorized in terms of General, OBC, SC/ST candidates and each of them has different cut off marks. In order for candidates to be considered, they even have to score a qualifying mark set for their category.
