The Master of Arts (MA) in Politics is a postgraduate program that deals specifically with the analysis of government, political systems and policies. This course is normally lasting for 2 years with four semesters in all. The curriculum comprises of subjects such as political theory, comparative politics, international relations, public administration and security studies, political sociology. The students are trained in both qualitative as well as quantitative research methods.
The other standard tests that are considered while giving admissions to the MA Politics programmes are CAT, MAT, XAT, ATMA, CMAT or GMAT. Certain colleges even have their own written tests, which are conducted to assess the student’s aptitude for learning the subjects required for the particular course. They also undergo personal interviews in which their subject knowledge aptitude and interest are tested for selection. Suitable Bachelor degree programs also contribute to the admission in Politics master’s courses for interested candidates.

1. Passed 10+2 examination with 50% marks and a bachelor’s degree in any field from any university recognized by the University Grants Commission.
2. For students from arts/humanities backgrounds, an interview may be conducted in order to assess interest.
3. Students from other disciplines such as science or engineering may need to take extra bridge courses.
4. Strong verbal and writing skills, coupled with analytical ability to understand academic information and write research papers.
5. It is required to have some knowledge of political science, current events, economy, sociology, history. Employment experience is appreciated insofar as it pertains to the needs of the company.
6. This may include language proficiency tests such as IELTS/TOEFL for candidates that are not native English speakers. GRE/GMAT scores can be required at some universities.
