Doctor of Philosophy in General Management or DBA Ph.D. is the highest academic degree that is offered within the area of business administration and management. It is a doctoral research program which prepares scholars with original ideas and research expertise to contribute to the growth of management knowledge and the extension of existing theory. The duration of the course usually takes between three to five years of study. The program comprises of postgraduate level masters and doctoral coursework in management specialties including organizational behavior, strategic management, leadership, technology management, operations management, marketing, finance, economics, and quantitative analysis. Students are able to assess and evaluate existing conceptual and theoretical frameworks in the management field, understand where research is lacking or innovative thinking is flawed, and engage in scholarly research to fill knowledge gaps or address problematic issues within management. Finally, the program is concluded by preparing an individual doctoral dissertation that contributes to the existing knowledge.

The entrance tests accepted for the Ph.D. General Management are GMAT/Graduate Management Admission Test, GRE/ Graduate Record Examinations. Other tests that may be accepted include CAT, XAT, MAT and ATMA for some universities. Universities and programs also set certain percentage criteria in undergraduate and master’s level for those students who themselves have good academic records and want to do Ph.D. Some of the universities require work experience, particularly, in a managerial or leadership position for admission.
