Ph.D. in Archaeology is an advanced research level area of study regarding the study of societies and cultures of the past through seeking and studying sites and objects. The time taken to complete a Ph.D. in Archaeology is relatively short and varies between 4-6 years for full-time learners. 

The program starts with one or two years of classroom training in fundamental subjects including theories of archaeology, techniques in archaeology, and analysis and regional studies. They are then subjected to a battery of written and oral qualifying exams to establish the student’s mastery of the discipline. The rest of the course entails concentrated research for the dissertation which is an embodiment of new knowledge. Students also get to have-field work exercises by participating in excavation.

PhD Archaeology Course Eligibility 2024

1. The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology attaining a minimum of 55% marks from a recognized university.

2. The candidate must have completed his/her Master’s degree from a recognized university in Archaeology or Anthropology with a minimum of 55% marks or its equivalent grade. It may be waived in certain cases especially when the candidate has excellent grades in their previous education institutions. 

3. Pass any eligibility test like JRF/NET or conducted any university for admission. Some of the Institutes offer direct admission based on the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate.

4. Writing a very powerful statement of purpose that is focused on the area of research interest and the accomplishments made in the field. 

5. This means that the ability to write and publish articles in peer-reviewed publications can be an advantage.
