Harcourt Butler Technological University (HBTU), Kanpur is one of the renowned colleges of India that offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate course in various fields like engineering, pharmacy, management, computer applications, designing, etc. However, the admission norms depend on the departments of the college. Holding the 10+2 qualification with Physics + Mathematics + Chemistry subjects with minimum 60% marks is required for the BTech programs such asComputer Science, Electronics, Electricals, Mechanical, Civil and so on. As per the requirement of Architecture program one should have 50% marks in 10+2, including mathematics. For BPharm candidate should pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and either Biology / Maths. It also provides the list of entrance exams accepted; they are JEE Main, UPSEE, NATA, GATE etc depending on the course. Admission to MTech programs requires having a BTech degree in a relevant branch with not less than 60% marks. It is mandatory to have a Valid GATE score for admission to MTech in any of the streams. Candidates must have a graduate degree with a minimum 50% mark to be eligible for the MBA program. The admission to MBA course at HBTU recognizes CAT/MAT/XAT scores as the criteria for admission.
The university currently offers approximately thirty programs in engineering, sciences, and technologies. Pharmacy, Design, Management & computer Applications at UG & PG level. For online application, the candidate is required to fill the form available on the university website while for offline application, the form has to be downloaded from the university website. Application forms and other relevant documents, fees etc, along with copies of essential documents should be forwarded to the admission office of university through post/courier/by hand. Finally, admission office will analyze applications and offer counseling rounds to deserving candidates. - The process of admission is strictly merit-based and it depends on the performance of the joint entrance examination – mains organised by the national testing agency.
- Separate applications have to be forwarded to HBTU Kanpur for admission to the B. Tech programs on the basis of the marks obtained and rank in JEE Mains after the declaration of results.
- Admission to the various branches of B.Tech is done based on the merit lists prepared by HBTU Kanpur which is determined by the performance of the students in JEE Mains exam and the ranks secured. Ranking is completed for the various categories and programs in the organization; cutoff ranks are then made available.
- The merit lists may also include other specifications such as 12th board percentage, category of the student, and state for which the student is eligible etc in addition to the JEE Mains scores.
- It is based on the concept of counseling where seats are distributed on the basis of merit list prepared for each counseling round. Students are supposed to turn up for the counseling in order of their ranks, enter their preferences and get allocations of the seats and branches of their choice depending on the availability.
- Some may also be reserved under some quotas such as; sports, foreign national, etc. which involves their own set of criteria for selection.

2. First go to the “Admissions” option and then click on ”B.Tech Admissions”.
3. Choose the B.Tech program for which you are applying for and then fill the online application form.
4. The candidates have to submit all the necessary information in the application form including personal information, academic or any other information and the contact details.
5. Scan and upload photograph/signature etc as per the size and other requirements and upload necessary documents like mark sheet of class 10, 12 etc.
6. Complete the online application fee payment through various options such as net banking, debit cards/ credit cards etc.
7. It is important to be very careful while completing the application form and always check all the filled details before submitting the form.
8. The candidate should complete the application process by downloading and printing of the confirmation page that has the application number for future use.
9. If shortlisted, then one needs to attend counselling as per the session that has been set. Take copies of the original documents and fees during counselling.
10. On the completion of the seat allotment process, the entire admission procedure should be completed by the candidate within the given time frame.
1. JEE Mains Rank: Half of the seats for admission in B.Tech programs are reserved for students on the basis of their JEE Mains rank.
2. 12th Board/Class 12 Marks: 30% of the total seats are given to students who secure the highest percentage in their Class XII exams. For this, the candidate has to be shortlisted through the merit list which is generated on the basis of the percentage in boards.
3. Uttrakhand State Domicile Quota: 15 % of the seats are available for candidates domiciled in the UK and admission is on the basis of the UKSEE rank.
4. Other State Quota: Each year 5% of seats are given to candidates from other states. In its current state, the admission procedure is done based on 12th board and JEE Mains Marks.
5. Direct Admission to 2nd Year: Some of these options are meant to offer a second year admit through lateral transfer from a diploma course.
