The Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) in Mumbai is one of the deemed universities in India known for imparting education in nuclear sciences and technology. It provides PhD and Integrated PhD programmes in various departments as Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Health Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Strategic Studies as well as PhD in Engineering. The requirement of eligibility is different from faculty to faculty and department to department, For instance, to qualify for the PhD programs in Engineering Sciences, one has to Possess a Master’s degree in engineering or technology with not less than 60% marks or CGPA of 6.5 on the scale of 10. Other qualifying exams allowed are GATE, NET, BET, NBHM, ICMR-JRF and others based on the respective discipline and programme offered.
HBNI offers 10 plus courses and streams for PhD entry level and some of them are Chemical Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Biosciences, Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Safety, Geology, Engineering, Materials, Chemistry and many others.

Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) is spread across Mumbai and the institute has several affiliated organizations which provide undergraduate programs in science and technology disciplines. The admission criteria also differs from department to department - for instance, to join the 4-year full time Bachelor of Technology program in Chemical Engineering at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, a student requires 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of 12th standard examination. Only certain entrance examinations are considered acceptable, and among these examinations is JEE Main. In the same vein, the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research has a course titled BTech Electronics and Communication Engineering, and applicants must have completed 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and passed with an aggregate of 60%. Some of the accepted exams are the JEE Main and the SRMEEE among others.
Some of the UG courses are offered through centers of the HBNI such as the B.Tech. /M.Tech. integrated programme in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science, Materials Science and many more.

The minimum standard of the education required may differ by streams – for engineering streams including mechanical, civil, electrical, computer science, information technology, the minimum educational qualification is a BTech/BE degree and the candidate must have secured valid GATE score above the cutoff sectioned by the department. In physical sciences such as physics and chemistry for instance, one must possess MSc degree and NET qualification or its equivalent examination. For life sciences and medical sciences, pass in MD/MS/MTech/MVSc degree is eligible. The qualifying examination acceptable are GATE, NET, JEST, NBHM , ICMR, CSIR-UGC NET etc.

HBNI is run by the Department of Atomic Energy, and the institutes listed above are supported by the Department. To qualify for a B.Sc., one has to meet the following criteria HBNI admits students in Physics who must possess an average score of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2 level with valid JEE Main or other state CET scores. For a B.Sc. In Chemistry, students will need 60% marks in 10+2 with chemistry as one of the subjects along with JEE Main percentile rank. About 60% in 10+2 with Maths including exams like CUCET are acceptable to join Mathematics departments. Other departments such as Biosciences, Environmental Science, etc., have similar eligibility criterion with percentage in related subjects and also accept score of national/state level examinations.
