Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya (SJSV) is a state university located in the city of Puri in the state of Odisha. SJSV was set up in 1981 and it aims at the conservation and enhancement of Sanskrit language, literature, philosophy and traditions. It has NAAC accreditation with Grade A and has achieved a CGPA of 3.11 which reflects high quality of education. According to the NIRF 2023 university rankings released recently, SJSV has been ranked 101 out of 200 universities in India.
SJSV provides several undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in nine departments namely Veda, Vyakarna, Sahitya, Darshan, Jyotish, Dharmasastra, Music & Fine Arts, Linguistics and Education. Some of its key programs consist of Acharya in Sanskrit, Master of Arts in subjects such as Vedanta Darshan, Indian Philosophy and Religion, and specializations in Astrology. It begins in May every year through state level entrance tests and students can choose their field of specialty. The next admission round with regard to 2024 will begin in May 2023. SJSV has had more than 780 students who have graduated from this institution after its establishment. The placement cell helps in recruitment by associating with numerous public and private sectors. Some of the prominent recruiters are ISRO, UIDAI, National Sanskrit University, state archaeology offices, etc. Many students also get appointed as Pandits, Translators in universities and temples. The average salary packages offered to the candidates lie between 3 lakh to 6 lakhs per annum. The maximum offered package is 12 lakhs per annum. Since SJSV placements are inclined more towards skill-based programs, it is believed that placements will show a positive rise that will be mutually beneficial for the students as well as the employers.

1. The candidates should have cleared 10+2 or equivalent examination with 50 % marks for the general candidates and 45% for reserved category.
2. For BA Honours, candidates should have passed Sanskrit as one of the subjects in 10+2 level. For MA, BA, degree in the relevant subject is mandatory and candidates should secure minimum 50% marks for the general category.
3. For admission to MPhil programme, one must have a minimum of 55% in the post graduate degree in the concerned subject. Even final year students are eligible for the post provided they have their certificates in the concerned field.
4. The criteria for admission to PhD are: Post graduation degree with at least 55% marks; and, UGC/CSIR NET/SLET cleared or a holder of teacher fellowship.
5. This application should be sent online or offline with the scanned copies of documents, photographs and application fees as per the university rules governing the same.
6. The admission criteria comprises of eligibility status, any entrance test that may have been conducted and interview conducted by the university administration. It is subject to the policy followed in the matter of reservation as per the government policies.
