There shall be many vital tests in University of Calcutta in 2024 like admission tests to the undergraduate courses, postgraduate entrance tests like CUET PG , semester wise examinations, backpaper/improvement tests and so on.- Online application process for admission to some major undergraduate courses shall commence in May 2024. Candidates are supposed to complete the application form and submit before the due date mentioned. After that, merit lists will be prepared and then followed by counselling sessions will be conducted. The final process of admission will largely depend on the cutoffs, the scores that the applicants achieved, choices that they made and the availability of the seats. For the PG admissions 2024 the candidate should have passed UG in the concerned subject and must qualify CUET PG 2024 or any other related postgraduate entrance exam as per the norms of the concerned university for the session 2024. It includes the application form of admission, entrance examination for PG courses, checking the cutoff list, filling options & final seat allotment.
It is worth noting that the University of Calcutta provides admission application through online as well as offline for different undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
To complete an online admission form for Calcutta University, log on to the official website from where the admission notification has been issued, that is www.caluniv.ac.in and click on the link ‘Admission’. Choose the appropriate course and then complete the online application form as detailed in the guidelines provided. As a part of the online registration process, upload the scanned images of the requisite documents such as photographs, signatures, age proof, previous academic documents etc as required. Make the online payment to get your application processed once you have completed the form.
To apply for admission by offline mode, please obtain the application form from the University Sales Counter and fill it physically. It is required to fill the form in one’s handwriting providing all the necessary information. The documents should be attested photocopies of the original and the applicant must supply 2 passport sized photographs. The duly filled application form along with a Demand Draft pertaining to the application fees where-ever applicable should be submitted to the relevant administrative section of respective departments on or before the last date. In case the admit cards are not available at this time, the candidates can download them or get them later when they will be released. 1. Identification Proof: Prepare 2 sets of Voter ID card/ Aadhaar card/ PAN card/ Driving License/ Passport.
2. Age Proof: * Two attested copies of the Class 10 admit card/ certificate or Birth Certificate.
3. Qualifying Exam Marksheets: It was mandatory to submit two attested copies of the Marksheets and Certificates of Class 10 and Class 12.
4. School/College Leaving Certificate: It is necessary to submit in original TC or School/College Leaving Certificates.
5. Recent passport size photographs: Enclose 5 passport size photographs of the applicant taken within the last 6 months.
6. Caste certificate: In case of the applicant belonging to SC/ST/OBC, please attach an attested copy of Caste Certificate if applicable.
7. Special category proof: In case one is applying for the seats under the reserved category such as sports quota, differently abled, etc then one needs to provide the relevant certificates.
- Apart from WBJEE examination, the scores in class twelfth also in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also taken into account. Sometimes there are minimum aggregate requirements needed to be met in order to use this method.
- The WBJEE 2024 will possibly be conducted in the month of April-May 2023 for the students who want to seek admission in the year 2024. After the results are declared they will begin counselling sessions which will commence in June-July of the year 2023.
- The total number of seats for the programmes, the list of the participating Institutes, different categories of seats and the policies of reservation will be declared by the WBJEE Board before the commencement of the counselling.

- Seats are filled depending on the ranks attained in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE). To be eligible for WBUAFS students have to qualify in WBJEE exam.
- Evidently, based on one’s rank in WBJEE, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) organizes counseling sessions. Here, the student is secured according to the ranks obtained and preferences filled by the students as well as the availability of seats.
- To be eligible for the post one has to pass 10+2 in science subjects, that is Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English with at least 60% of marks in aggregate.
- About 10% for SC/ST category candidates are permitted in total marks for each subject.
- In addition to the ranks obtained in WBJEE, there are a few seats that are available for direct admission on the basis of 10+2 score also the cutoff for which is not fixed and changes every year.
- Some are reserved for the NRI/NRI sponsored students and these seats are also filled by the performance in 10+2.
- On the basis of WBJEE ranks they also provide admission to the candidates without considering their 10+2 scores in University of Calcutta Kolkata. Ranks are given first preference for the criteria of merit and general seats.

4. Pay Application Fees
- Tremendous application fees are charged as the form is being filled in the appropriate authority. These fees can be paid online by bank transfers or offline by demand draft.

5. Counseling
- For final admission, after passing through entrance tests, there are counselling sessions to determine who gets which course based on rank, preference etc.

- For admission to M.Sc programs a candidate has to qualify the entrance test conducted by the university and there is merit clause.
- However there are few programs where there is another round of personal interview/ viva-voce too.
- The entrance test usually encompasses one hundred questions, which are in multiple choice format, designed to assess general intelligence, logical thinking as well as substantive knowledge pertinent to the specific M.Sc course.
- The minimum requirement to appear in the entrance exam is the completion of a Bachelors degree in science with 50% marks for general category and 45% for SC/ST/OBC categories.

- It is for the academic session where UC Kolkata starts the admission process in the month of May to June each year. Therefore, the steps may likely take as long as they did this year, and we should expect an announcement of admissions for 2024 in the coming months.
- To get admission to PhD one must have the following qualifications: a Master’s degree in the concerned subject from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade point. There may be relaxation in case of SC/ST candidates.

- Candidates short listed have to face an interview session where a doctoral committee would be present. In assessing the ability of the students and the research potentiality along with the subject competence, the committee refers to the academic achievements of the students and their performance in the written test/interview.
- This means that candidates are accepted after completing both tests and are chosen based on their scores in the written test and interview. Emphasis is placed for class lectures on conceptual understanding, specific subject content, and research skills.
- Other requirements as may be set by some departments may include work experience, number of published works etc. Candidates possessing a fellowship UGC/CSIR-NET JRF or any other fellowship as equivalent to UGC/CSIR-NET JRF will be preferred.
- In HRM, there is reservation norms while choosing candidate for an organization. The University also offers few scholarships to those foreign students who want to pursue their PhD programs in the University every year depending on their performance.

4. Complete and Submit all the Applications
- This is to ensure that all the necessary details needed in the application forms are duly filled and accompanied by relevant documents as may be required. It is important that the applications completed and submitted to the related department on or before the deadline.
5. Offer Entrance Exams
- Some departments also conduct their written tests for admission to the PhD programmes generally in the period of June-July, followed by viva-voice. These you will have to clear depending on the department rules.
6. The functionality to check Results & Enroll is also integrated in the system.
- In case of selection of the students, a list of students qualified for the PhD program is put up on the website/notice board in approximately the month of August-September. Join by finishing all necessary procedures of admission to the course.
