Ph.D. (Ayurveda) or Doctor of Philosophy in Ayurveda is a doctorate degree programme that is of a minimum of 3 years in duration. The program is designed to educate the students in the field of Ayurveda and the major emphasis is given to the advanced research in this field. The entrance exams deemed acceptable for admission into Ph.D. (Ayurveda) include the following: NIA Ph.D. Entrance Exam, Pre-Ph.D. Admission Test at Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) University, Jamnagar and Pre-Ph.D. National Level Ayurveda Entrance Examination for admission to BAMS course at National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA). Some institutes also provide valid NET qualification as criterion for admission to the Ph.D programme.

1. CCIM approved BAMS degree having minimum 55% marks as a qualification from a known university.
2. The candidate should possess MD/MS degree in Ayurveda with not less than 55% of marks from a recognized University.
3. Minimum 2 years of teaching experience as Assistant Professor/Atleast 5 years regular service in a reputed Ayurveda hospital.
4. University Grants Commission with good rank conduct National Eligibility Test to qualify National Eligibility.
5. Selection of the proposed research topic to be approved by a recognized Ph.D. guide and ethics committee of the concerned Ayurveda college/ University.
6. There is no prescribed age but young candidates especially those who are below thirty years of age are usually favoured in most universities.
