Ph.D. in Radiology is a postgraduate program that prepares students for performing research and teaching in the area of radiology and medical imaging. The normal time to complete the full-time formal Ph.D. in Radiology is 3-5 years. The curriculum entails higher level courses in topics such as anatomical structures, disease processes, physiologic processes, pharmacology, radiation physics, radiation biology, and imaging modalities.

Some of the entrance exams acceptable for admission to Ph.D. Radiology programs in India include UGC NET, GATE, JEST, JGEEBILS, ICMR JRF, CSIR UGC NET. Several institutes also have intake through marks obtained in master’s level entrance examination and then group discussion and interview. It is also noted that academic record and research experience in addition to the test scores are considered in the process of admission.

PhD Radiology Course Eligibility 2024

1. MBBS or equivalent qualification from a recognized university with not less than 55% marks in aggregate. 

2. The candidates should possess the valid registration certificate from the Medical Council of India or from any State Medical Council. At least one-year experience after the MBBS degree is desirable.  

3. Assessment in the entrance examination conducted by the university/institute which provides the Ph.D. Radiology programme such as CET, GATE.   

4. Clearance of an interview/viva-voce round that tests the research ability, subject content knowledge and interpersonal communication of the candidate. 

5. Preference will be given to candidates having qualification in any medical post graduate degree and having MD/DNB in Radiology, radiology related super speciality or DMRE degree.  

6. This involves evaluation of the candidate’s portfolio that may comprise of his/her research papers, conference papers, teaching or work experience by a university selection committee.
