Ph.D. (Rural Development) is a 3-year course at the Doctoral level that deals with the study of Rural Economies, societies and policies. The main purpose of teaching this course is to increase the skills of research and analysis in order to create policies for rural development and get an understanding of socio-economic problems of rural territories. The syllabus some of which covers areas such as rural economics, poverty and inequality measurement, agriculture and rural development policies, natural resource management.

PhD Rural Development Course Eligibility 2024

1. The candidate must possess a master’s degree in rural development, rural management agriculture or any other relevant discipline with not less than 55% of marks. 

2. Passing in the entrance examination conducted by the university or those who have cleared the UGC NET/SLET/GATE examination. 

3. Contenders must come for an interview so as to determine one’s research abilities.

4. Some institutes may prefer work experience in the rural development sector. 

5. No age limit but candidates below 55 years of age are preferred.

6. In addition to good writing, analytical and computer skills, the candidates must be ready to conduct field work in rural settings.
