Doctor of Philosophy in Human Rights also known as Ph.D., is an academic degree awarded for higher level of learning and research in human rights. The Ph.D. program in human rights usually lasts for three to five years. The course is designed across areas like theory and philosophy of human rights, human rights laws and institutions, the growth of movements and activities for human rights and so on Students are to undertake researches and write a thesis under the supervision of faculty members in order to be awarded the degree.
The general pass requirements include the UGC NET or qualification in GRE/GATE / JRF for admission to Ph.D. Human Rights in most of the universities. The score of the CUCET Examination is also considered eligible for admission in the central universities of heterosexual education. Besides, clearing any national level test, the student needs to appear for an interview and/ or written examination conducted by the institute offering Ph.D. in human rights.

1. A master’s degree in any subject from a recognized university with not less than 55% marks in aggregate.
2. The candidates who have qualified the UGC NET/JRF or those who have cleared other national level examinations like ICSSR/ICHR with fellowship are allowed.
3. Applicants who are employed in government organizations, NGOs etc. and possess minimum 2 years of experience may apply.
4. Only candidates sponsored by government, public sector undertakings, NGOs etc. with a minimum of two years experience are eligible to apply.
5. Foreign nationals possessing a masters degree will be considered provided clearance has been obtained from the relevant authority as to the equivalency of the degree.
6. They have to write an entrance examination and interview, organized by the University to determine the candidate’s research potential before offering him/her admission.
