M.Sc. Food Science and Technology is a taught postgraduate academic master’s degree covering the aspects of science and technology in the processing and production of food. This is a 2-year course that teaches its learners subjects such as food chemistry, food microbiology, food engineering, food biotechnology, nutrition science. The students acquire knowledge and skills needed to enhance creation and control of food products manufacture and distribution.
Some of the entrance tests that are considered to admit candidates to M.Sc. programmes are: Some of the exams that a Food Science and Technology course are GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering), CSIR NET (National Eligibility Test), ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) NET, either state level entrance test like Odisha CPET (Common Postgraduate Entrance Test) or University Examinations. It also makes the candidate eligible to apply for the course at reputed institute and universities across the country depending on the scores they have obtained in these exams.

1. Graduation Degree in Food Technology/Food Science/Food Processing/Dairy Technology/Agriculture and allied subjects with minimum 50% marks.
2. Other graduates having a bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, though with courses related to food science may also apply.
3. The courses some of the institutes offer to B.Tech graduates in Biotechnology/ Bioengineering fields include this course.
4. There are only one or two institutes which carry out entrance tests for admission and personal interviews later on.
5. Higher preference may also be given to the candidates with work experience especially if the institute is into the related industry.
6. TOEFL/IELTS scores or any other recognized English language proficiency test may be necessary for foreign students.
